Papa Kit's

    PAPA KIT's...

Papa Kit's is a 90 hectare land that was originally known for Kit Mendoza's fishing and lagoon business in Liloan, Cebu. The family aimed to preserve and restore the natural wealth of their father and so they expanded this property to an eco tourism attraction for all ages. So if you are a nature lover and adventurous person like me or simply someone who wants to escape from the urban life, Papa Kit's is best for you! So without a doubt, my friends and I paid a visit. It is just situated across Liloan's town church, so a simple multicab ride from Mandaue city highway to Liloan will take you there. Entrance fee is P100 only, which is consumable at their restaurant.

    FISHING

Upon entrance, the first thing that welcomes you is the fishing area which is so much inviting. They've got several ponds for bangus, tilapias and the bigger fishes too. But only few are used for fishing, the rest are for breeding I believe. And so we rented the rods and bought baits. It was our first time though so no one knew how to use it yet until one of the crews assisted and briefed us on some tips and proper ways to fish.

It's not as easy as what you think it is! We've been fishing for like couple of hours but haven't caught anything yet ‘til finally, we caught up one! Imagine us shouting and leaping for joy! Lol. I guess that's how beginners would react:) T'was really fun! A new experience I haven't done in my entire life. You can choose to have it grilled and eat at their resto or simply pay for it and bring it home. Their area manager treated us well too.

    ZIPLINING the 800meter zipline

From the entrance, you can take a horseback ride, rent a bicycle or simply trek towards the zip lining area. Unlike E.A.T Danao in Bohol, their zipline transcends from one islet to another which is also a property of Papa Kit's and you will definitely soar over water. Whooaaa!! Truly amazing and a lot more exciting than the one at Busay!

BIKING

I like the idea of biking as one of the activities but the bikes and the service itself weren't satisfactory. Sorry to tell. Although I'm not good at biking, we preferred to bike than to walk around the place. Sadly, bikes for rent were overused and we felt uneasy. One bike had a flat tire at the front, and so we asked assistance from one crew, but unfortunately he was not very helpful.  Got no choice but to continue biking and having fun! Please do provide good and new bikes next time.

BOATING

Since the pumpboat can only accommodate 5 persons at a time including the driver, we divide ourselves into two groups.  The 30-min boat ride was enough to tour around the lake and to see the beauty of nature. It's cool and refreshing especially when you see birds flying around!

Paintball

The Paintball Challenge
According to Wikipedia, Paintball  was originally created by Charles Nelson of the Nelson Paint Company in the 1970s . Eventually, it became one of the extreme sports in which players compete in groups. You simply have to hit your opponent with paint-filled balls called “paintballs”. Special protective gears like the vest, goggles/helmets and the gun called the marker, are used during the game.

In Cebu, the Weboss Extreme Grounds offers such game for only P300/head which includes free use of the gears and free 50 balls with a maximum 4-hour play. Without a doubt, we chose it as one of our teambuilding activities when our boss came to visit us from the States. For 2 hours, we were able to play 3 different games.

A brief session was done prior to the game to educate us on how to use the marker, and how games are played. To be honest, I'm not really sure what the games were called but I somehow describe it as "Hit-the-opponent" game. By the name itself, once an opponent is hit, they lose the game. The second one was just like the first, only that we had to change bases. The third was one a lot exciting since it was similar to counterstrike. Once you are hit, you have to go back to your base and start all over until you run out of balls. The team with lesser hits is considered a winner.

Let the game begin!!

THE BLACK TEAM
(Ghen, Don and Tine)

Don

 THE GREEN TEAM
(Fritz, Cristuff, Kristen, Fely)

Luckily, the black team won! Weeee! But I was also unlucky enough since my right leg was hit and got swollen. Ouch! So you gotta be careful when you play!

I just also want to leave points for improvement.. I am hoping that gears will be upgraded soon. As I have been searching online, some other paintball areas offer complete set of gears - from the helmet/goggles to the pants. You might want to add the pants too, not just the vest. Also, bigger space and more hiding areas can add the excitement as well. Lastly, there should be availability of waivers, bottles of water, first aid kits all the time.

Nevertheless, the experience was awesome and incomparable! You hide, run, hit, run, hide, hit again. It's definitely one game that you don't usually do. So don't miss it! At the end, you'll find yourself with paint splattered around you.

EL Sumampong Farm: Horseback Riding

My sister's family just got home from the States for a short vacation. So we went horseback riding at El Sumampong Farm. It's been over a year since the last time I've been there. We wanted to try something different this time so we took the trail ride. Unfortunately, it wasn't as challenging as the one we had in Tagaytay. Nevertheless, we've learned how to let the horse gallop and that  made it so much fun! You have to lean forward and hold the horse's mane to keep you balanced. My butt hurts 'til now though, maybe I wasn't sitting properly when the horse galloped faster.  I almost fell off too when it gone a bit out of control.  Had to shout "HO" and pull the rope that was tied around its neck.  I got scared somehow so I let the horserider man it so it won't go wild again and he pulled the horse back to the main ranch.

That was amazing! Everyone had a great time including my nephew, Sean. If I only had a horse, I would love to learn more about horseback riding.

NEW RATES:

1hour trail ride- P400
30 mins trail ride- P200
15 mins trail ride- P50

ZOOBIC SAFARI Adventure

Zoobic Safari is located at the Ilanin Forest at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and has been operating for over 5 years now.  Because of its location, the animals are viewed in a jungle setting. Although I already had close encounters with a wolf, snake and baby orangutan at Avilon zoo, it's more unique and interesting at Zoobic Safari because you get closer encounters with the wilds especially the tigers-- almost like a real African safari adventure!

In fact, you can have a souvenir photo carrying a tiger cub for only P260.  Unfortunately, the cub was sleeping when we went there. And by the time it woke up, we were already about to bid goodbye and a lot were lining up for the photoshoot already. But what's more exciting though was the opportunity to feed them!

LET THE TOUR BEGIN

For an Entrance Fee of P395/head, you can tour Zoobic Safari for about a couple of hours. You can choose to ride the Zooper train (P50 per head, per trip), a customized train with tiger stripes and colors or choose to use your personal vehicle to get to the other farther attractions

        TIGER SAFARI

The tour started at the Tiger Safari. From the Zooper Train, we were transfered to a unique ride in a "Safari jeep". We were able to witness the tigers roaming freely and frolicking in their natural habitat.  Some of them even jumped and went up the vehicle. To experience more adventure of the tour's highlight, you have to feed the tigers!
The chicken is for P150 only and with the help of a highly trained Aeta, you can dangle it outside the jeep. It was fun and scary to watch them gobble up the meat.
It was raining so hard that the total experience made it more adventurous! The only drawback was I had to keep my camera inside the bag once in a while so it won't get wet.

Anyhow, although it was a bit short, the jeep that got almost stucked at the muddy ground and the tigers that went all over our vehicle made it very exciting that you can't help but scream! The tigers get so near you that you could pat it on the nose! But you just really have to be careful or your hands will be eaten! The vehicle is actually fully enclosed in steel to keep you safe.

After a little while, we stopped over at the Tiger cafe where you can buy the photos taken by their photographer during the safari ride and it's also a souvenir shop with a lot of tiger stuffed toys too.

          TIGER's DEN

Second stop was at the Tiger's den where several tiger cages are lined up and you walk about a few meters away from them. Be prepared as the place is somewhat stinky, but you're going to love to see the tigers in captivity.

Some of them were sleeping, others went roaring, others just doing nothing.  I have learned that when a tiger is coming with its tail moving up, it's a sign they are going to urinate! =)

     ZOOBIC PARK

Next was at the Zoobic park where most of the farm animals roam around freely.

          CROCO LOCO

The 4th stop was at the Croco loco where you can feed the crocodiles with some chicken (P50) too. Funny thing was they looked like statues because they barely moved.

But once you're going to feed them, they move like hunters in the wild with mouths wide open waiting for the food to be served!

   ANIMAL MUZOOEUM

Next was a visit at the Animal Muzooeum to view some preserved animals, bones and skeletons on exhibits.

These are indeed collections of real stuffed animals.

The museum was converted from one of the war bunkers left by the American and Japanese military in Subic after World War II.

         AETA's TRAIL

The Aeta's Trail was also interesting! It's actually my first time to see real Aeta's in person. I had a chance to have picture taking with them. We witnessed their ethnic ritual dances including the Tutubi dance or dragonfly dance that signals them whenever weather changes. Another was the the Unggoy or monkey dance which they perform during hunting season and the Pagbabayani or war dance which they dance whenever they need guidance for a victorious fight. These were accompanied by an Aeta guitarist too.

These Aetas now serve as forest rangers and guides to this popular ecotourism attraction in Subic.

       RODENT WORLD
The most non-flying mammals are rodents. The more common ones include mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rats. They are also selling cute little Abyssinian Guinea Pigs if you wish to take one back home.

       PETTING ZOO

Our 7th stop was at the Petting zoo. You have to trek  through the forest with different exotic  animals, a lot of which I’ve never seen before. I had a great time petting with the camel.

I remember when I was a kid that I thought the humps at their backare filled with waters, only to realize now that it's actually their back bones. Lol.

         SAVANNAH

Next was the Savannah where different ostriches abound.. I learned that you should keep at least 2 meters away from them since they can kick you off their feet 3x as deadly as the horse's kick!

      SERPENTARIUM

Finally, we've reached the last stop -- the Serpentarium which showcases different variety of reptiles.

The wonderful experience I had was indeed a great escape from the busy streets and urban noises and lifestyle back in Cebu. I had a great time! Then again, I'd like to sincerely thank the two Swat officers who assisted us all through the tour. Because of them, we had a free entrance and had a memorable time at Zoobic Safari =)
